Acupuncture Services

We are very pleased to offer Acupuncture as part of our clinics therapies

It is well documented and researched, at providing relief and benefits for a huge range of conditions. It also compliments Osteopathy incredibly well, to form a total body wide boost and powerful healing combination.

Acupuncture has a clearly documented history in China for the last 2500 years, but is thought to have been practiced for over 4000 years. In Traditional Chinese Medicine the overall aim of acupuncture treatment is to restore the body's equilibrium. Traditional acupuncturists believe that the underlying principle of treatment is that illness and pain occur when the body's qi, or vital energy, cannot flow freely. There can be many reasons for this; emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection or injury are among the most common.

Western Medical Acupuncture looks at acupuncture from a mechanical/nervous system viewpoint. Acupuncture to regions of injury or regions linked via local and central nervous system connections, make changes to muscle fibres and your bodies nervous system. These changes have a wide range of effects including local anaesthesia, downregulation of sympathetic nervous systems and upregulation of some key processes in the brain dealing with pain modulation.

Both Terry Lomas & Morgan Hancock provide acupuncture treatment as an adjunct to their Osteopathic treatments, if they feel it will help your presentation. If you’re not a needle fan, have no fear, they will always ensure you’re comfortable with it as an option before doing so.

If it’s your first time trying acupuncture and you’re wondering if there’s anything you need to do to prepare for the session, here are a few tips that can help you out:

Wear loose fitting clothing that you are comfortable in

Eat & drink something before the treatment, dont have acupucnture on an empty stomach.

Avoid caffeine before your appointment

Use the restroom before your session so that you can get the most out of the time and be fully relaxed

Sometimes we will extend your appointment a little to ensure you get the most benefit from your session, so ensure you have some extra time after your appointment to allow for this.

"There is evidence that acupuncture influences the production of and distribution of a great many neurotransmitters and neuromodulators, and that this in turn alters the perception of pain.."
